3rd October 2025 — Shanghai, China

Arrival in the City of Tomorrow

We touched down in Shanghai after a long flight from London, stepping out into the humid embrace of early October. The city rose around us in gleaming towers and endless motion—a place that feels perpetually under construction, perpetually transforming itself. After collecting our bags and navigating the efficient airport, we made our way into the urban sprawl, watching the landscape shift from suburban flatness into the dense, glittering core of the city.

The first few days blurred together in that particular way of travel, jet-lagged and wondering. We explored the Bund with its colonial-era buildings standing shoulder to shoulder with ultramodern skyscrapers, walked through the neon-soaked streets at night, and let ourselves get a little bit lost in the markets and back alleys. Shanghai felt both overwhelming and strangely welcoming—a city that moves at its own relentless pace and expects you to either keep up or step aside.
